Introduction

The Rough or White Sea Pen reaches 30 cm tall. Found in dense beds on suitable substrates, generally below 20 m. Note the spicule clusters at the base of each branch feel rough when the fingers are run down the rachis, hence the common name. Capable of retraction into the substrate.
